Materials Required
- Leaves of Mango/Bougainvillea/Petunia
- Micro slide
- Forceps
- Water
- Cover slip
- Compound microscope
The Procedure
Real Lab Procedure
- Take one fresh mango leaf from the petri dish.
- Fold the leaf and tear along the lower side of the leaf.
- You will notice a thin peel on the edges of the torn portions of the leaf.
- Using the forceps, pull out the thin transparent layer from the lower epidermis of the leaf.
- Place the epidermis layer on a clean glass slide.
- Take few drops of water in a dropper and add 2-3 drops on the glass slide.
- Take a cover slip and place it gently on the peel with the aid of a needle.
- Remove the extra water using a filter paper.
- Place the glass slide on the stage of compound microscope.
- Observe the peel under the low power of the microscope and note the different types of cells
- Locate the pores in the cells and observe it under high power.
- You can repeat the same procedure for observing the cells of upper epidermis.
Simulator Procedure
- Select the leaves from the drop-down list.
- Click on the leaf to tear it.
- Drag and drop the forceps towards the leaf to take the epidermal layer of leaf.
- Drag and drop the peel towards the glass slide to place it on it.
- Drag and drop the dropper towards the glass slide and pour few drops onto it.
- Drag and drop the coverslip towards the glass slide to place on it.
- Drag and drop the glass slide towards the stage of microscope and place on it.
- Click on the lens to view it.
- Click on the stomata portion to view it and identify the parts.
- Choose the correct answer and drag and drop the correct answer to the corresponding box.
- Click on the Reset button to refresh and redo the experiment.
